According to ancient Jewish folk beliefs, the Hamsa is the protective Hand of G-d which wards off the evil eye.

Symbols often incorporated into the Hamsa are the blue eye of G-d, (blue being the color of water, symbol of life and the color of the protective sky above us), fish, (immune to the evil eye because they are covered in water and water is equated with life), and doves, symbols of peace.
