Collection: Mezuzot
The very first ceremonial object that becomes part of a Jewish home, is the mezuzah. In compliance with the Biblical passage, “Thou shalt write them (the words of the law) upon the doorposts of thy house, and upon thy gates,” the Jew places a small encased scroll on the upper part of the right doorpost. The first portion of the Hebrew text on the scroll reminds us always to keep G-d’s words in our minds and in our hearts. It is meant to be a constant reminder of G-d’s presence.
Specially trained scribes handwrite the scroll, or parchment, in a uniform Hebrew script devoid of any errors or smudges. If the scribe makes a single mistake, the parchment is discarded.
It is this parchment that is usually placed in a protective decorative case.
